For several years we have offered, where appropriate, alternative care to the traditional periodontal surgery as a means of arresting and controlling periodontal disease. The dental hygiene department primarily provides this therapy called scaling and root planing. We have a new technology of ultrasonic scalers called ProSelect scalers available to aid the hygienist in more efficient removal of plaque and calculus both above and below the gums. This therapy is used as a first line defense against periodontal disease in an attempt to control the disease and avoid a more aggressive surgery.

A: Children and adults both benefit from topical fluoride treatments. Fluoride helps strengthen the enamel of kids teeth while they are forming in order to decrease decay rates. After the teeth are fully formed it may seem as though there is no benefit from fluoride treatments. However, with age comes recession of the gums and exposure of the root surfaces of the tooth.

Her total experience is 40 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, with a certificate in Dental Hygiene. She is married to Josh, and is the mother of three children; Jen, Josh and Jacy. They all enjoy family time, camping, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. She is a member and past president of the Upper Peninsula District Dental Hygiene Society; also the MDHA and the ADHA.
