With direct digital, the x-ray image is produced directly and shown on the computer monitor instantly. On the other hand, with indirect digital, the x-ray image is produced from a 2-step method: 1st, the pre-image is captured on a phosphor plate; 2nd, a scanner is used to provide the final image which can be seen on a computer monitor. The process is lengthy and cumbersome.

Although CBCT (cone-beam CT) is designed for dental specialists and general dentists, chiropractors who specialize in Cervical may benefit greatly from utilizing CBCT. The effective dose of ionizing radiation given by a medical CT (fan-beam CT) is estimated as about 100 times more than that given by a dental CT (cone-beam CT).

When the bracket is loose, but the wire is not poking the patient's cheek or lip, then this is not considered as an emergency. It may be annoying, but there is no harm. When the wire is poking the patient, causing pain or ulceration or both, then this is truly an emergency.
