TMJ / TMD Treatment

If you suspect that you have TMJ/TMD, call us today to schedule a consultation. When you come in for your first appointment, Drs. Galligan and Villa will perform a physical examination of your jaw joint and facial muscles. He’ll be looking for tenderness and pain, as well as proper function in this examination. He will also take X-rays of your jaw to determine what’s going on with it and how to proceed with treatments.
Treatments may be as simple as taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory and eating soft foods for a few days whenever you have a flare-up. However, if you’re suffering from frequent inflammation and/or lockjaw, Drs. Galligan and Villa may recommend further treatments, including medications to help you deal with stress without grinding or clenching your teeth, a splint or night guard to keep your jaw in the correct position when you sleep, and/or dental crowns, cosmetic bonding, or porcelain veneers to repair wear and tear from grinding your teeth.

From the time I walked into the building there was nothing but courtesy, kindness, and respect. I felt a warm welcoming which is extremely important. Dr. Thomas Galligan and his staff are awesome and they take the time to explain to you what is going on with your teeth, gums etc. They just do not put you in the chair and start working; they are thorough before they start and Dr. Galligan asked me am I ok while he was working on my teeth. Just awesome. It is very difficult to find a good dentist who knows what they are doing. And his assistant Donna J. is so kind and knows what she is talking about. She made me feel like I been going there for years. I thank Dr. Galligan and his entire staff. You will not go wrong by going there.

I had a great experience at my dental visit today. From the moment I walked in, I was treated as if they had known me for years. The entire team was welcoming and professional, which immediately made me feel comfortable.

I recently visited this office for a third time to get a semi-annual cleaning, and I just had to leave a review because Ive never had a cleaning as thorough and attentive as this one! I left feeling like I had a new pair of chompers, haha. Brittany did a great job and is so sweet. Dr. Pepe is so knowledgeable and friendly. I didnt feel like just another patient here because of how genuine their attitudes are. 10/10 recommend!

Always a pleasure to come here! Front desk staff are nice and welcoming. I always look forward to seeing Gabriella the dental hygienist every 6 months for my cleaning- she is absolutely amazing! Shes so warm, good at her job, and eases you throughout the whole process! Dr. Pepe was wonderful as well- had so much feedback/insight and great bedside manner. Overall always a great experience what otherwise can be viewed as a daunting visit. I will be coming back!

My husband and I came here for the first time and had a wonderful experience! The receptionists were all very patient and helpful. The dentist was really friendly and knowledgeable. The dental hygienist, Anita was so sweet and warm. She made sure I felt comfortable and explained a lot of things to me. She was such an angel because she helped me remove all the stubborn plaque off my teeth, especially this yellow stain that I had on my front tooth. I was always feeling hesitant to smile with that stain. The previous dentist place I went to didn't do a good job cleaning my teeth and the stain was there for the past 2 years. Anita got it off for me and now all my teeth are white again! I feel like a brand new me! Thank you so much! I definitely reccomend this Dentistry to everyone!

Dr Lafferty and Dr Galligan are the sweetest as are all of their hygienists! I always have a great experience there and I am not a person who loves the dentist lol! The office is so clean and they are always accommodating for my busy schedule. I have very sensitive teeth and never have an issue there even when I needed a Cavity filled. Would definitely recommend this practice!

I later joined their dental savings program, which is affordable for anyone without insurance and includes two cleanings and X-rays for $450. Every visit since has been just as positive. My most recent cleaning was with hygienist Anita, and it was the most thorough cleaning Ive had in my 30 years. Shes incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely cares about her patients.

Doctor Ryan Galligan has been my mother's dentist for years now. Today's visit was an extremely important one. Doctor Galligan and his staff were welcoming, as always. They showed concern, compassion, and professionalism at every turn. Doctor Galligan may just be the most talented dentist in this region. He was ready to handle my mother's issue immediately without wasting time. It is an hour and a half after her procedure, and she is not experiencing any pain. I loved my former dentist, but he retired a few years ago. Drs. Galligan and Villa came highly recommended, and I am so glad I found them. They are close to my home and have such convenient hours. They are extremely efficient and knowledgeable about insurance. I am impressed that they are able to tell me almost to the penny what I will pay out of pocket after insurance. And of course, the staff is friendly and professional.

I've been going here for over 10 years. Dr. Thomas Galligan, Dr. Ryan Galligan and Dr. Villa are masters -- they're friendly, fair and just great people. I recommend every friend to them for a reason. They have a great staff that is ALWAYS on schedule which is rare for any doctor. They're far and away the best in Staten Island and a top contender in the NYC area.

After a bad experience @ another Dental office, I was referred to the office of Dr. Villa & Dr. Galligan. After being examined by Dr. Villa who took the time to explain exactly what was going on with my teeth, I met with Dr. Ryan Galligan who performed a extraction on a severely broken & problematic tooth. He did a great job, and I will definitely be referring them to my friends & family, and will be continuing to use them as my Primary. My experience was great overall , even the staff was so helpful. Let’s face it most of us don’t love going to the dentist. But the people at Galligan and Villa make it a great experience. From the minute you walk through the door till you walk back out again you are at ease. The professional staff is friendly and easy to talk to (except when they are working on your teeth). Dr. Galligan was highly recommend. My dentist I usually go to hours weren't convienient for me anymore .I needed attention ASAP because of a broken tooth under a cap. I was a little nervous trying someone new But the minute I walked through the door I felt at ease. Staff is very friendly and courteous. Dr. Galligan was amazing !!! Very thorough exam and very caring.
He tried to save my broken tooth but couldn't because it was so badly broken. I opted for a bridge and in no time he got to work removing the broken tooth and root. Couple of stitches and an instant temporary bridge. I was amazed at how fast and accurate his work was.100% pain free I love my new Dentist.

If I could give them 10 stars I would. The staff is extremely nice, always get me in when I have an emergency. I am usually terrified of the dentist, but the doctors always make you feel relaxed and calm and are really good with dealing with babies like myself. Hours are also great. So glad I found them.

I have been going to Galligan & Villa for over 15 years, ever since I returned home from serving on Active Duty in the Army. Now that I am in the Army Reserves I am required to have a dental exam and teeth cleaning every 6 months. I absolutely love him and his office staff. They are very friendly and very professional. There is such positive energy in that office! I’ve also had my teeth whitened a couple of times. I’ve recommended numerous friends and coworkers and they’ve all been very happy. There is never a wait, the dental chair is very comfortable, and they play fantastic music!!!

I went there to get my wisdom tooth pulled and I was panicking for no reason Dr.Ryan knows what he was doing my tooth didn't hurt once I went in on a Friday after noon and I was able to go about my weekend with no pain or uncomfort. Ever get a horrible toothache at 2am on a Saturday? I did 19 years ago and searched the internet looking for a dentist that would take an emergency. I was new to Staten Island and had not been to a dentist in a few years. I must have left messages with about 10 dental offices and was not too hopeful being that it was the middle of the night and also knowing that I was not a regular patient for any of them.
I had left a message with the answering service and soon after I received a return call from Dr Galligan. He felt so bad about my pain that he told me to come to his office first thing. It was a Sunday and his office was closed but he opened the office at 8 am just to treat my toothache. I will never forget that day. Dr. Galligan treated me like family and has been my dentist ever since.
He even called me later that evening to see how I was feeling. He does this every time I have a procedure done. He and his staff are nothing short of exceptional. He is the most professional and compassionate dentist I have ever met. His assistants are wonderful as well, especially DJ and Candy who are super caring, friendly and knowledgeable. His front desk staff are also excellent!
The whole office staff go above and beyond to ensure a positive patient experience. I now travel from New Jersey to go to him. I would and have recommended him to all of my family and friends.
