Oral Surgery Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a dental specialty that spans a wide range of procedures and conditions. They have extensive specialized training in these treatments, and we don’t offer all of them.

However, Dr. Goshtasbi has considerable training in many areas of dentistry and knows that he can deliver great results to his patients with these procedures:

Dental implant placement
Wisdom tooth extraction
Other surgical and nonsurgical extractions
If you are looking for one of these procedures, Dr. Goshtasbi will evaluate you and decide whether your case is one he can handle or if he might want to refer you to a specialist.
Gum Disease Treatment Gum disease is, basically, an infection of the area between your teeth and gums. Oral bacteria find their way into these spaces and multiply. As these bacteria multiply, they also produce strong acids that can damage your gums, teeth, and bones. This expands the area for bacteria and causes your gums to detach from your teeth and your teeth to detach from your bones.

But as destructive as the oral bacteria are, it’s often your body’s immune response that causes the worst of the damage. Oral bacteria can subvert your body’s immune system and make it attack you, not them. And sometimes your body’s response is to catastrophically attack both bacteria and bones–a kind of microbial nuclear option that sacrifices your own tissue in an attempt to stop the infection.

Meanwhile, the bacteria from the gums can spread via your breath, blood, and food to other parts of the body, extending the infection. And your body’s immune response–called an inflammatory response–can also spread the impact of the infection throughout the body.
Oral Cancer Screening During your exam, we will start by asking you about any new or unusual symptoms you may be experiencing. Make sure you report any unusual symptoms you have noticed, such as:

Sores, lumps, swelling, or areas of changed texture anywhere in your mouth
Red or white lesions in your mouth
Swellings that interfere with restorations, teeth, or orthodontic appliances
Numbness, pain, or sensitivity in your mouth
Pain or pulsatile tinnitus (regular sound, like a heartbeat) in one ear without hearing loss
Loose teeth unrelated to gum disease or tooth infection
Sore throat or hoarseness that lingers
Feeling of an obstruction in your throat when there’s nothing there
However, with screening, we are hoping to catch oral cancer before it begins to show symptoms. So even if you don’t report symptoms, we’ll look for signs of oral cancer, providing a complete inspection of your:

Gums
Lips
Mouth
Tongue
Salivary glands
Throat
We will perform a close exam so that we’re most likely to catch any suspicious developments.
Emergency Dentistry Some of the most common dental emergencies that people seek care for include:

Toothache
Gum, cheek, and lip injuries
Chipped or broken tooth
Loose tooth
Knocked out tooth
Objects caught in teeth
Lost filling
Lost crown
Loose orthodontic brackets and bands
Most of the time, it’s good to consider what you can do to try to alleviate your condition and either put off dental care or improve the odds of getting good results. Here are some general suggestions (not intended for self-diagnosis) . We encourage you to call us any time you experience what you consider a dental emergency.
Dental Exams Twice annual dental exams are vital to your oral and overall health. We perform many vital procedures at your dental exams, including tooth cleanings, preventive dentistry treatments, oral cancer screening, and laser decay detection. This helps us protect you from tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer.

If you are overdue for a dental exam or are looking for a new dentist in Scripps Ranch, please call (858) 271-1010 or contact us online today for an appointment with Dr. Ramin Goshtasbi at Oasis Dental Arts.
General Dentistry You know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Actually, in dental care, it’s more like an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. Unlike skin, muscle, and even bone, the body has limited mechanisms for healing your teeth. And no restorative materials can match the properties of your natural dental structures. So preventing damage to your teeth and gums is of paramount importance.

That’s why we offer many preventive treatments, including regular checkups, dental cleanings, dental sealants, and fluoride treatments.
Dentures Dentures are the oldest tooth replacement option. They have existed for thousands of years with little change except for the materials used and some other small adjustments. They can to some extent restore the functions of teeth, including:

Speaking
Eating
Smiling
However, because they are not teeth, there are some limitations you may face if you get them.

Speaking with them takes time to learn. Some people never get the hang of speaking with the additional fullness in the mouth, and poor fitting can interfere with speech.

Eating with them is better than eating without, but it’s a long way from eating with natural teeth. Traditional dentures don’t give you the same level of bite force as natural teeth. You will have to learn new ways to eat and may have to give up many foods entirely.

They come in many degrees of quality, and how attractive your smile is will depend on which you select. But it is possible to have realistic, attractive ones that will look good when you smile.
Inlays/Onlays Inlays and onlays are truly the best option for tooth fillings. They offer many potential benefits for treating tooth decay, including:

Precise color matching
Have the luster of natural tooth material
Create a tight seal with tooth
Swell and contract at a similar rate to natural material
Highly durable–resistant to staining, wear, and erosion
Restore strength to teeth
Dental inlays and onlays are made using the same materials and processes as porcelain veneers, so they can achieve the best, most natural results when restoring teeth. The ceramic even has the same translucent luster as tooth enamel. They can be indistinguishable from tooth enamel.

Because inlays and onlays are bonded to the natural teeth, they create a tight seal that keeps out oral bacteria and damaging liquids. And because the ceramic has a similar contraction rate to tooth material, it won’t break the seal, cause cracking, or lead to sensitivity.

The advanced ceramics used for inlays and onlays are highly durable. They resist staining because of their glazed surface, and their hardness makes them wear resistant. Acids can’t attack them, so they don’t get eroded, either.

In fact, the materials in inlays and onlays are so strong that they can restore strength lost in your tooth when it decayed. This makes them a great choice for larger fillings.
Dental Fillings Dentists across the country and around the world have been moving toward the use of white composite dental fillings because of the many benefits they offer. Composite fillings:

Blend in with natural tooth structure
Bond directly to tooth structures
Don’t create stress cracking from thermal expansion
Insulates teeth against temperature changes
Preserve natural tooth enamel
Don’t contain toxic mercury
White composite fillings can blend in well with your natural tooth enamel. We call them “white, ” but they can actually come in many subtle shades that will match well with your tooth color. This is unlike metal amalgam fillings that start out silver and can turn black when they oxidize (rust) .

Metal amalgam fillings are also just jammed into the hole created by a dentist. They don’t bond to teeth. But white composite dental fillings do, creating a tight seal that protects teeth.

Hot and cold foods and beverages can cause your tooth structures to expand or contract, but not as fast as metal amalgam. Metal amalgam expands so fast, it can crack your teeth and put painful pressure on your tooth pulp.

White composite dental fillings won’t cause stress cracks and they insulate your teeth against temperature changes, reducing painful sensitivity.

Composite fillings can be placed in small spaces, so it’s not necessary to remove as much natural tooth enamel. And with our advanced laser dentistry, we can control this even more precisely. This helps preserve your natural tooth enamel, which cannot be replaced.

And, unlike metal amalgam fillings, composite fillings don’t contain toxic mercury.

Dentist/Owner
General and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Ramin Goshtasbi, or Dr. G as he is known, is a native of San Diego. He lives with his wife and their dog, Josie, in Scripps Ranch, California. He comes from a family of dentists and physicians, including his father and sister. It was watching his sister in dental school that made him realize he wanted to serve society as a friendly, gentle dentist.

Dr. Goshtasbi graduated from Torrey Pines High School and received his undergraduate degree in biology from San Diego State University. He then went on to pursue his long-time dream of becoming a cosmetic dentist. He obtained his degree of doctor of dental surgery from New York University, where, among other accolades, he was top ranked in clinical dentistry.

Dr. Goshtasbi strives to become the best cosmetic dentist he can be. He works hard on continuing education so that his patients receive the most comprehensive and best care possible in a warm and gentle manner. He has trained extensively in implant and cosmetic dentistry as well as Invisalign, resulting in many units of continuing dental education a year. This far exceeds the minimum requirement of the California Dental Board.

In his free time Dr. Goshtasbi performs community service by donating his expertise as a dentist to those in need. This makes Dr. Goshtasbi realize that the economic market may make it hard for many well-deserving patients in need of quality dental care to afford such care. Dr. Goshtasbi always weighs the cost to patients when introducing new techniques or technology. He only introduces those advances that offer substantial improvements in quality of care or experience.

His comprehensive training makes it possible for Dr. Goshtasbi to keep costs down for patients by performing many treatments that most other dentists would refer out to a costly specialist.

Where the care of a specialist is necessary, Dr. Goshtasbi has partnered with a board certified periodontist that allows for specialized care while controlling costs.

Cosmetic dentist Dr. Goshtasbi loves animals, chocolate, and going fishing in his spare time.

This has always been mine and my families go to dentistry! Love Doctor G and his warm staff! Never had a problem in anything so far! Always a pleasant experience, the first dental/medical office I have been too who is not driven by money but driven by trying to make ppl happy and spreading smiles! All the other dental offices and private medical practices I have seen are very much profit oriented which almost dupe you and this one is very unlike the typical norm that way! Definitely recommend it, already recommended bunch of my friends who love this place!

Dr. G takes care of our whole family. My kids love going there and look forward to their cleaning appointments. I have been going to Oasis dental for one year and Dr. G., Melanie, and Lorreena (spelling?) are fantastic. Service is professional and detailed. I can't stress enough the amount of care and detail the team exerts whether it be in scheduling appointments, billing or ensuring that their work meets Dr. G's high standard of care. I mention this because for me, this is perhaps the most important aspect of dental care.

During my childhood I had a fantastic dentist who I now realize I took for granted...big mistake. My recent experiences with a series of other dentists have been less than favorable (e.g., frivolous and unnecessary work, poor quality work, and questionable billing practices) which has lead me to very apprehensive of dental if not all medical work.

Dr. G's team is more than happy to show me what work they recommend, explain why they reccomend the treatment, and the root (no pun intended, maybe it was) of issues thoroughly. I am confident in Oasis Dental Arts and am glad to have found a competent and ethical dental office.

Oasis Dental Arts is a privately owned office instead of the large chain dental franchises. The staff is friendly and welcoming . The dental hygienist is gentle and thorough. Dr. G is a talented dentist and is concerned about the patient's health as well as their comfort. I finally found a neighborhood dentist office that is reliable.

Dr. G and his staff are exceptionally friendly and informative. I'm usually fairly anxious when it comes to going to the dentist, but not here. I like that they explain everything in detail and go over the options and costs with me up front. I feel comfortable that I am making the decisions and getting the best treatment possible. Additionally, Dr. G is amazingly skilled and takes his time to do things right.

I've had fillings from other dentists that have needed adjustments or were sensitive for a long time. All of the work that Dr. G does has been perfect, feels just like the tooth did.

I have been going to the same dentist for years until I moved to San Diego, so the transition was hard. I have been to many dental offices in San Diego and this is the first place that I can truly say is honest. Every time I am greeted by the sweetest receptionists and everyone is themselves. I like going to a place I know that cares about their patients. Would recommend this dentist to everyone and I do...

I have been going to Dr. G, for year now and he has done just excellent work on my teeth. The Office is a friendly place to go, the staff is just wonderful. What I like about Dr. G, is the fact that he doesn't have a great number of clients waiting for him, he only works on one person at a time. His hygienist is so gentle you can't believe that she is working in your mouth..I recommend Dr. G and his staff as a wonderful place for your dental work... He will take care of you...

I have been coming here for years and I won't be going anywhere else. The staff is really friendly and Dr. G is hilarious! I used to hate going to the dentist but it's not so bad anymore. In and out in an hour and Dr. G and the dental assistant will be having a conversation while working on your teeth so the time kind of goes by, or they have headphones that you can watch their TV or plug into your phone for music.

The office is clean and in a great area right next to the freeway entrance so you don't hit much street traffic during traffic hours. I recommend this place to anyone looking for friendly service and exceptional dental work!

No one likes going to the dentist but Dr. G and his team are so amazing and accommodating you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. They're sensitive to your needs and really honest with your dental care. I recommend anyone looking for a dentist around the area. Thank you Dr. G and staff!!
