Bone loss in your jaws can leave you with inadequate bone width or height for placement of dental implants. Many things including tooth loss, injury, trauma, denture wearing, or periodontal disease can cause bone loss or bone defects. The defects can also lead to indentations in your jaw that are not esthetic and hard to keep clean. A key to implant success is the quantity and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. The back of the upper jaw (the maxilla) is often lacking adequate bone to place dental implants because that is the area of the jaw that contains the sinus.
At Valencia Periodontics we offer you different solutions to help you feel more relaxed during your dental treatment. We offer a range of sedation from increased relaxation all the way to dentistry and surgery while you sleep. Be sure to ask about our sedation options at your next appointment if you think that they may be right for you.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that is placed into your upper or lower jaw bone beneath your gums to replace one or more missing teeth. The implant is made of titanium and is completely biocompatible with your body. Your periodontist places the dental implant and your general dentist restores the implant (attaches the crown or bridge). There are three parts to a dental implant. The actual implant is the artificial root made of a titanium screw that is the anchor placed into your jawbone.
Gingivitis is a mild form of periodontal disease. The gums become inflamed, meaning that the gums appear red and swollen; they will often bleed easily when brushing or flossing. Gingivitis is caused by a build-up of plaque along the gumline which usually results from ineffective oral hygiene. Patients usually do not have any discomfort or pain at this stage of disease. Gingivitis is completely reversible with a professional cleaning and good oral home care. Often patients see an improvement after they have a cleaning in our office and begin using an electric toothbrush to help brush more effectively.
