Merritt Orthodontics has been an experienced and respected provider of orthodontic services in San Antonio and the surrounding area for more than 20 years. Dr. Jeffrey Merritt believes in a conservative methodology of care by avoiding extractions whenever possible and recommending treatment only when absolutely necessary. Orthodontics runs in my family. My dad was an orthodontist and I grew up working in his practice after school and on weekends. There was no way around it: I was meant to be an orthodontist. I have the best job in the world. I absolutely love coming to my office every day. In fact, I hesitate to even call it "work, " it's so enjoyable.
We recognize that all of our patients are unique and deserve to receive orthodontic care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding orthodontic experience every time you visit our practice.
Upon graduation from dental school, orthodontists go on to complete an additional two to three years of residency training at an accredited school or health/science center. Semester-long courses include head and neck anatomy, biomechanics, occlusion, and dentofacial growth and development, just to name a few.
Our greatest goal is to give you the healthy, straight, beautiful smile that you've always wanted. We understand that choosing to receive orthodontic care is a big decision, and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel. My experience at Merritt Orthodontics has made an extremely positive impact within my life. My teeth were adjusted to the exact placement that I envisioned them to be. Dr. Merritt is a true artist. He precisely adjusted the movement of my teeth every month for 12 months making my open bite close. He evened out the crowding of the bottom row of my teeth meticulously. Simultaneously fixing my open-bite and crowding, Dr. Merritt perfectly created an even aligned structure of my teeth that compliment my face.
The end result was astronomically different from when I first stepped into Dr. Merritt's office. My teeth have a beautiful even structure that fits my mouth very well. I am overly happy with my smile. I would highly recommend Merritt Orthodontics to any of my friends and family members in a heartbeat.

The best Orthodontist in Texas! I saw Dr. Merritt as a child & a decade plus later, my oldest daughter saw both Dr. Merritt's & now, my youngest daughter is a patient. 2 generations, 30+ years of my family being patients says a lot! We love Merritt Orthodontist & the fantastic staff that has taken such wonderful care of me & my family through the years.

THIS GUY COMMITTED FRAUD! BE CAREFUL DOING BUSINESS WITH DR MERRIT! THEY WILL OVER BILL YOU! ADMINISTRATOR IS VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL! We found Dr Merrit through the network of our insurance company. He saw both of my children and was very knowledgeable in his profession and compassionate with my children. However, I always had issues with his administrator.
She was constantly ill informed and messing up our paperwork. She would charge different amounts for the same thing and I would always catch it because I had two kids in braces and was constantly looking at 2 different statements. She was rude on the phone and even more condescending and unprofessional in person. After my oldest daughter finished her treatment plan I was still receiving bills from them.
Then a short period later, I was contacted by my insurance company to let me know they over billed us $1000, and to stop paying them! So I confronted her (the admin in charge of billing), only to be attacked and insulted. I let her know the insurance company was the one that brought it to my attention and I just wanted my money back. After she refused and said the insurance company didn't know what they were doing, I decided to proceed with a claim and put the company under investigation.
In order to be in the network of Delta Dental, they had a contract agreement to a negotiated rate with their patients. It is a contract they have to abide by to continue to be under the umbrella of that particular insurance company. THEY LEGALLY CANNOT CHARGE YOU MORE! IT IS FRAUD! Well I never looked at the detailed paperwork, I just kept paying my monthly dues.
After the company was investigated, they gave me a check for $200 and made up approximately $800 in charges saying they forgot to bill me for. Which means, I was right! They did over bill me! So needless to say, I never got my money back! After all was said and done, I still apologized to administrator for exposing the fraud they were committing and explained I just wanted my money back that was owed to me.
It was not fair for them to over bill me like that. After all, I still had my other daughter in their care. She was in the middle of the second phase of her orthodontic treatment and was about to undergo oral surgery. Well, Dr Merrit decided to drop her as his patient one day before her scheduled surgery. And he had the billing lady deliver the news to me.
She said that after reviewing their contract agreement with Delta Dental, they were going to go ahead and refuse to abide by it! (Her exact words) She did not apologize she just simply stated that they were not going to do the work for the pre-negotiated rate and they were dropping her as a patient. So not only is Dr Merritt's company guilty of FRAUD, they are also falsely practicing under a PPO, malpractice, and discriminating against patients!
I would be very careful receiving care under this practice. If it happened to me, how many other patients did they over bill? How many other patients did not catch it? They need to be investigated! If you are a current patient, I urge you to review all your statements and match them to your benefits statement. Don't be ripped off! UPDATE*** In response to Elaine. 1) Full Refund was not issued.

What a great place to go! I got my braces done 6 years ago and we still go in for check ups and I love it. The staff remembers us and asks us how we're doing and talk about college. We love them and it was sad to graduate out the place. Wonderful trustworthy staff that won't suggest things just to get your bill a little bigger. I have and will continue to recommend them!

Dr. Merritt it's the best orthodontist in San Antonio! His professionalism and compassion towards his patients makes him a unique health care professional. I cannot thank him enough for the great service and care I received from him and the whole staff. They made me feel welcome and like I am part of the family. He takes his time and listens and talks to you! That is priceless. Also, I love to smile and his treatment was excellent.

Dr. Merritt and his staff have worked on 3/4 my children. Everyone in the office is super friendly and we are always in and out of there super fast. He has a great bedside manner with the kids and thoroughly explains everything to us parents! Highly recommended for any ortho work in the San Antonio and nearby areas!
