I cannot recommend Ann Arbor Smiles enough. I hadn't seen a dentist in. and embarrassing amount of time. and a dental emergency is what finally got me in. I went here on recommendation of a friend. Dr. Kennedy (Sr.) was so kind. They NEVER said anything bad about my absence from the dentist (my childhood dentist was all about the scolding). In fact, I think it's a policy or something, because every staff member I've ever seen has practiced only positive reinforcement.

I couldn't believe what a difference this made in my comfort level. As others have said, AA Smiles is not cheap. When I had really bad dental insurance, I usually had to pay the difference between what they said a cleaning would cost and what it costs at AA Smiles. THAT SAID, I've never had them upsell me. In fact, they make a point to go over estimates ahead of time, have you sign off on them, triage the care you need, and even contact your insurance ahead of time to help you figure out the actual out of pocket cost of a procedure.

Beyond that, you can tell that they invest in equipment and staff, not in fancy fountains and TVs for the waiting room. Also, I'll pay for a quality office if it means avoiding weird strip mall dentist offices. In the aforementioned dental emergency, I needed a whole tooth replaced with a crown. Rather than the usual 'take a cast, fit the crown, get a temporary crown, wait a couple weeks. ' that takes several appointments, they scanned my mouth and a 3D image appeared on the screen.

Then they matched my tooth color exactly and machined the crown in the other room. The whole appointment was less than an hour and a half. On top of that, Dr. Kennedy did a beautiful job shaping to tooth to look natural in my mouth. He also took GENUINE JOY in helping me. I've since gone back for countless procedures and cleanings (with Chris? Kris?). I now see Dr. Emily Kennedy and she's fucking phenomenal. I recommend her to anyone I know with dental anxiety.

One of the best dental experiences I've ever had. Immediately felt at ease and have full trust in Dr. Emily. Wasn't made to feel guilty or ashamed. Didn't feel like I was getting a sale pitch. My hygienist was kind, gentle and considerate. The dental assistant was great. Front desk staff was super helpful.

Without a doubt, the best dental experience I have had since I've had teeth. While I have only had two diagnostic appointments, I can honestly say that the dentists and technicians I have encountered have converted me from being a world-class dental phobic to to a devout fan of A2 Smiles. For this, I will be forever in their debt.

I always have a great experience here. I love Dr. Gray. Not only is his work impeccable, he is also very personable and fun to chat with. I've had a couple of crowns that he's done, and I've never been as happy as I have been with him. Highly recommend Dr. Gray. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

TL;DR: Ann Arbor Smiles is coming for as much of your money as possible. You shouldn't trust them with something as important as your oral healthcare. Besides egregious upselling, they are explicitly breaking their contractual obligations with Delta Dental at the cost of the patient. Please, let my wife's experience be a warning. Take your business elsewhere.

Today multiple members of staff tried to convince my wife to pay hundreds of dollars for fillings when her dental insurance (Delta Dental) covers 100% of the cost. The staff insisted that the charge was correct, and even suggested that it may be due to 'how bad' the cavities were (they were not; one was barely a surface level filling). She claimed that this was the best price available in the area, that going anywhere else would be useless, and acted like expecting a $0.00 charge would be absurd.

The staff member went back and forth to the dentist and all of this took place in front of other patients in the waiting room, making my wife feel embarrassed and crazy. When my wife called Delta Dental, they explained that they do in fact cover 100% of the costs. They then made clear what was happening: The dentist was trying to make my wife pay for the difference between what they *wanted* to charge for the service, and how much Delta Dental was willing to pay for the procedure.

This is called "balance billing, " and is explicitly FORBIDDEN. Unfortunately you can only submit a complaint to Delta Dental after you're charged in this way, so there was nothing Delta Dental could do about AA Smiles' behavior. When looking back at her other experiences with AA Smiles, my wife noticed multiple red flags, like her hygienist charged $50 for an 'extra good' cleaning on her first visit.

She cited a high level of plaque build-up, but neither she nor the dentist had an answer as to what they would have done if she'd said no - clean her teeth a bit worse? This and other behaviors speak to a culture of up-selling and exploitation across the clinic. AVOID.

Ann Arbor Smiles is the best dentist practice at which I have received services. The staff are very knowledgeable and seem to keep up with current dentistry procedures. They take their time with patients and are unfailingly polite and friendly. I have had cleanings and various dental work there and have always been impressed with the careful and considerate manner in which the work is performed. Highly recommended!

Ann Arbor smiles is a great place to be. The staff is very kind and cheerful. The paperwork is really smooth and they go over and beyond to make sure you're comfortable and to pre check if your insurance covers the cost. Dr. Liane Racelis was very friendly and patient and explained everything very clearly. She also spend time for closer inspection as opposed to some other places where they rush through dental examination. Noor, who was the dental assistant was very patient and helpful too. For the hygienist, Caitlin was fun and very thorough and did a great job. With just one appointment, this place has become my dentist of choice!

Ann Arbor Smiles offers incredible quality of care. My grown daughter has a lot of anxiety around dental procedures her whole life, so after some bad experiences, we sought out a dental practice adept in handling such issues. They have been amazing with her. Now we all go here. It's not inexpensive but they do an excellent job managing insurance and costs are always made transparent up front. Highly recommend.

I drove 30 minutes and I will be back for all my dental need. I can't tell how grateful I am to them and how awesome they are. I promise who ever goes here will be extremely happy.

I had a first visit with Dr Emily Kennedy Marlow today and she impressed me deeply with her care, friendliness, and thorough approach. She really took the time to explain in detail what my issues were and the different ways she can address them. I went in for one issue and she took a few photos just to be sure, and found other problems I had no idea were there. I look forward to working with her as her patient.

Dr. Marlow is hands down the best dentist. I also love his assistant, Ashley! I've been coming here for a few years now and the care I receive is always top notch. They make each visit as comfortable as possible, explain everything that they're doing, and make sure any questions I may have are answered. I used to dread going to the dentist, now it's a much more inviting and pleasant experience. 10/10.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Marlow. For me he exemplifies all of the right traits for a care provider in terms of listening to patients concerns, explaining things at a level they can understand and has all of the pleasant, patient, outstanding "bedside manners" to make the whole time there a positive experience. Support staff are all top notch as well, so there is every confidence that all bases are covered at AA Smiles.

Had a great first experience here - the hygienist Emily was so kind and informative, and Dr. Emily was so thorough. I have super sensitive teeth and this was the first hygienist I've worked with who adjusted her technique so I wasn't in pain - normally people use a topical anesthetic on my gums and just continue as normal but with her adjustments this wasn't needed at all. I was taken back 15min after my appointment time but they didn't rush, didn't cut corners, and I had a great exam. Highly recommend Dr. Emily.

After moving towns, I was really nervous about changing dentists, as I was extremely happy with my old one. They put my anxieties to ease and took their time to ensure I was comfortable and informed of everything they were doing. The amount of time they took educating on home care and prevention was far beyond anything I've had in the past and was extremely grateful for that.

They also took my insurance into account when developing my treatment plan. I'm feeling very optimistic about this switch and would recommend for anyone with dental anxiety like myself!

Great practice! I highly recommend Dr. DiDonato. He's very attentive and kind. And I always look forward to seeing Amanda for a cleaning! I'd be a life long patient if I didn't have to move out of state. If you're looking for a new dentist, definitely come here!

Ann Arbor Smiles follows the most rigorous safety protocols during these trying times. Their PPE and air filtration equipment ensure that you receive safe dental care. Dr. Marlow is working on an implant for my upper front tooth. He listened to my concerns and developed a plan to give me the best possible outcome. I appreciate his precision, empathy and dedication. You would be fortunate to have him address your dental needs.

I've always been very happy with the care I've received at Ann Arbor Smiles. Both the hygienists and dentists are sensitive to my concerns, and never fail to go out of the way to address them. I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone, and particularly anyone who becomes anxious about dental work.

Everyone at Ann Arbor Smiles is committed to great service and clear communication. They also are committed professionals who take pride in their work. They serve my whole family: myself 54, with serious periodontal issues, my 21 year old daughter who has anxiety around dentistry (why we came here in the first place), and my 13 year old son who just sailed through orthodonture despite a terrier puppy in the home who was bound and determined to eat his retainers, box and all. Good people.

I have been going here since 1980, when Dr Kennedy and Dr Marzonie were the dentists. Now, Dr Kennedy's daughter is the dentist here! They're all amazing. I have had a lot of work done here, and my daughter now goes here, even though we live in Livonia! I trust this dental office, and that means a lot. Recently, I had to go to another dentist because I changed insurance. It's been awful!

The new dentist said I needed a bridge done, and didn't tell me that I needed a crown on one of the teeth. They did the bridge first, , which used up all my insurance for the year, so I couldn't afford to do the crown. Now I can't put the bridge in, because I need to do the crown first, and the temporary bridge is broken. They already pulled the tooth under it too! I wish I never had to leave Ann Arbor Smiles. Be careful where you go, and go to a good, trustworthy dentist. This practice won't steer you wrong.

This practice upsells a lot. I have not had a cavity in 20 years and during my evaluation they told me I had several. I was suspicious and generally didnt appreciate how pushy they were for me to use their services, so I found a new dental practice that is very highly regarded. Unsurprisingly they told me I had 0 cavities. I shared this story with two to three other colleagues of mine who had also been referred to me, and they described identical situations.

Overall I did think they were clean and organized, but I would be highly suspect of their recommendations. And for what it is worth, I seldom write reviews but I feel that patients should be aware of these anecdotes.

I found out about Ann Arbor Smiles at a work hosted health event with Coyote. I met one of the staff and they told me I could make an appointment in our office. After not having been to a dentist for roughly two years, I figured it was time to break down and plan a visit. I became a patient of Dr. D, and met a few of his hygienists. As soon as we started he noticed a few cavities or potential spots that needed to be filled, a deep cleaning was needed, and I told him about some sensitivity to cold foods I had been having.

Within one year, I have had two cleanings from Brittany (who is amazing), I have had all cavities filled, and the godsend from Dr. D was my occlusal guard a.k.a. my very dense mouthguard for sleeping so I don't grind or clinch my teeth --- this alone took away the majority of my sensitivity. It blew my mind. This is a great practice, and I've recommended several of my peers to their office.

The professionalism everyone showed was terrific. Everyone was friendly, of course, but also I felt comfortable and relaxed and respected. They also clued me in as to what was needed and what they were doing. I really like Ann Arbor Smiles.

I went there to do my regular cleaning upon my appointment this week. A hygienist decided not to do it and pushed me to do an around $1000 deep cleaning. No idea why she got right to make decision for me. Another dentist came in and asked me to do all kinds of expensive treatment. I did not see such needs in my last cleaning in another shop several months ago.

I spent my appointment time for no service in the end. I'm not expert of dental, but I know it is proper at least they should complete my booked service before selling me others service. Very disappointing with this 1st time experience.

Came here early last year. The doctor was nice. But they billed my insurance without noticing me. And they didn't respond to my follow-up emails. Now I need to pay out of my own pocket for extra exams.

From the front desk to the assistants to the dentists, the staff is so amazing. They really listen to you & take their time with every patient. They're also conscientious about the cost to the patient (like what insurance won't cover) and they go over it with you before any work is done. So glad I found them!

I was a patient at Ann Arbor Smiles during my time at grad school, and I am sad I will have to find a new new dentist now that I am no longer in town. I have a unique dental situation, but Dr. Emily was very knowledgeable and took the time to learn about my needs. I would absolutely recommend Ann Arbor smiles.

I cannot in good conscience recommend Ann Arbor Smiles to anyone because of two unexpected and horrible interactions with one dentist in the practice, Dr. Daniel Kennedy. The first incident happened in November 2017, and the second happened in May 2018. In both cases, I had made an appointment with Dr. Emily Kennedy, only to be seen by Dr. Daniel Kennedy.

On both occasions-- while I was lying down in a dental chair, in a very vulnerable position-- Dr. Daniel Kennedy commented on my "high cheek bones, " told me how "beautiful" I was, and compared me to women in Renaissance paintings. On the first occasion, I was alone in the room with Dr. Daniel Kennedy. On the second occasion, the whole interaction was witnessed by the dental hygienist, who was very professional and conveyed my concerns to two office managers.

These two managers met with me directly following the recent incident; they both treated me with much kindness and respect, for which I am grateful. I do want to note that my earlier experiences with another dentist at Ann Arbor Smiles, Dr. Emily Kennedy, were nothing short of remarkable: I first met her when she generously took a call from me on a Sunday because I had enormous tooth pain, and was continually impressed by her thoroughness, warmth, and professionalism.

Today was my first appointment with this dentist after feeling as if my last dentist was wasting my time and money. My x rays were done by Cailin who was a ray of sunshine! She's newer to the clinic but you can already tell that she's an amazing addition. My cleaning was done by Amanda who was super fun, thorough and knowledgeable. She was also pretty much just a nicer version of myself, so office chat was a good time! She's a great asset, and I hope AA Smiles treat her right! :) My dentist was Dr. Marlow who was very nice, non-intimidating (as some dentists are) and answered all of my questions.

And didn't make me feel dumb or bad for asking so many qts. I didn't get the girls name who checked me in but she was great, too. I'm admittedly super picky about all of my health care providers as I've had bad experiences in the past that lead to very expensive and serious surgical procedures-- I trusted this office immediately (which is hard for me to do!). I felt listened to and that I gained some very good prevention knowledge for my teeth. Thank you, Amanda, Cailin & Marlow! And super friendly front desk lady!

When it comes to going to the dentist, It is usually the last place I care to be and my inner 5 year old comes out. My first visit to Ann Arbor Smiles was prob. the most pleasant and easiest trip I have ever had to any dentist. Excellent front desk staff and my Hygienist Caitlin was amazing and understanding that my inner 5 year old could appear at any moment. Dr.

Gray was also very informative and professional. Overall, if you are looking for an amazing dental experience in Ann Arbor MI. Come to Ann Arbor Smiles! As long as I am a resident in this area I will be a patient of Dr. Grays Thanks Ann Arbor Smiles!

I have been with this dentist since early 2014, where I had come from a long list of HORRIBLE dental experiences. They were so personable and knowledgeable, and followed through on every thing they said they would do for me. They never tried to take advantage of me by recommending anything I didn't need, nor have I encountered any issues with anything they have fixed for me.

Even after I left my job to go back to school and I no longer had insurance to cover them, I kept going because it was my first time trusting a dentist and I wasn't ready to give them up. Dr. Emily, Dr. Marzoni, and the dental hygienist continued to provide me with exceptional care. Although I grew up in Detroit and go to school out of state, I choose to stick with this office. Thank you A2 Smiles! I appreciate you!

My first visit was the same day I called A2 Smiles with what I thought was a toothache. Leaving soon for a trip, I didn't want to let it get worse, and was so pleased they were able to squeeze me - a new patient - in right away. (By right away I mean they saw me within an hour of my call to them.) The lovely Amanda made me comfortable and took films. Dr. Emily Kennedy followed with a thorough examination of the area that was hurting, and soon declared my teeth to be sound and healthy.

I was glad to hear her say she wants to take a conservative approach and treat the aching with an NSAID for five days and then see me again. We're hoping there was some irritation along the gum line that will resolve by then. The conservative approach is what I always like to hear. (First, do no harm.) Beyond that, both Amanda and Dr. Emily were wonderful: sensitive to my worries, but upbeat and very caring. Dr. Emily reminded me several times to call anytime in the meantime if the pain worsens or anything else comes up. I am so glad to have found such a wonderful place! And amazingly, I look forward to going to the dentist again in a week. For me, that is saying a LOT!

Great dentistry. The entire staff is very personable - dentists, hygienists, dental assistants. Dr. Emily is my dentist, and she has been very personable, answering all of my questions, and even going above and beyond to obtain second opinions for me when I had a concern. The entire staff is very educated, answering all of my questions and teaching me some throughout my visits.

I had have a lot of dental work done this year, and the entire staff worked with me to identify the best insurance plan and timing of the procedures so I wouldn't have to pay too much.

I wanted so badly to love this place. My first couple visits were great! Dr. Emily was personable and attentive and my hygienist was the same. Unfortunately, my last appointment has lead us to search for another dental practice for our family. During my cleaning I was 4 months pregnant. I was told that I had a cavity in one of my molars that should be filled as soon as possible, even though it was causing me no pain.

They reiterated that I should have it taken care of before I gave birth and that it would be 100% safe. So I scheduled my appointment. The day of my filling came around and I was 6 months pregnant and prepared. I had asked my midwife about the procedure before going in and she had given me a piece of paper detailing what was and wasn't recommended for my treatment.

I gave the paper to the assistant that led me back to the procedure room. She glanced at it and set it down reassuring me that they worked on pregnant women all the time. I figured they knew what they were doing and had probably seem that paper before (it was a standard print off they used for everyone). That same woman began preparing me for the local anesthesia by rubbing some numbing cream ON THE WRONG SIDE OF MY MOUTH.

So when the Dr. injected the anesthesia into the right side of my mouth I felt everything. I instantly felt very light headed and hot. My heart started pounding and my limbs felt heavy and weak. I mentioned this to the woman and she reassured me that this reaction was normal when using epinephrine. which was the one thing listed on the paper from my midwife under NOT RECOMMENDED. Needless to say I freaked out the second she said it.

She looked at me puzzled, and said "what paper? Where?" They ended up putting a pulseox monitor on my finger and tracking my well bing through the procedure, because well they had already done the damage of injecting me with the wrong stuff. When I left I burst into tears and looked up epinephrine during pregnant, and the biggest risk was premature labor.

As much as I wanted to love Ann Arbor Smiles, I can't continue to go somewhere (and bring my family somewhere) where something as important as a note from a Dr. for a pregnant patient is overlooked.

Very kind and helpful. One of the dentists even took the time to explain everything he was doing and why it needed to be done. I appreciated that. I learned a lot about dentistry. They seem very knowledgeable about what they do, and it made me feel much more comfortable. This will definitely be my new dentist.

I have had several bad experiences at Ann Arbor Smiles, but the last one topped them all. For one, it took THREE HOURS to fill a few small fillings. I was told the appointment would be an hour and a half. This was on account of many factors. (1) The dentist rambled about whatever topic came to mind (including his own theories he forces you to listen to).

When he's rambling, he's not working. He also kept insinuating that I should take his ideas to my employer. Dentist appointments are not the time for networking! This was the second time he had done this to me - the other time had also been when I'd gotten cavities filled, and I almost didn't come back after that. (I regret that decision now.) (2) An assistant hadn't showed up, so the dentist kept leaving me for fifteen minutes at a time (this happened about four times) to go check on other patients. (3) The hygienist disappeared at one point, so the dentist had to do both of their jobs, and he had to reach over me to grab his tools.

I felt like I was getting half the service level I was paying for. (4) The dentist kept redoing his work. He kept testing my bite and going back to re-putty, etc. While I appreciate the effort to make the fillings right, it should not take three times per tooth. On an unrelated note, the dentist practically insulted the hygienist during the appointment, and it was obvious she also couldn't stand him.

During other appointments I have had the hygienist never show up, forcing me out of bed for a 7am appointment for no reason. They never bothered to call me to tell me this, so I showed up anyway. I have also had a hygienist tell the doctor she was leaving DURING my appointment. I think she could have found a better time for that. I have given Ann Arbor Smiles more than enough chances, but they have failed miserably. I will not be returning there, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. The only positive note: All the hygienists and the administrative assistant are all very nice.

I've been to a few other places before finally deciding on here, and I plan on staying with this group for a while. Perhaps because my last place was so traumatizing - a dental hygienist had a coughing fit while cleaning my teeth (yes, my mouth was wide open) - that I am giving this place a rave review. But I really believe the staff and facilities here are top notch.

Their waiting room has an awesome (albeit cliche) fish tank with a variety of life in it. Ever see Little Nemo? Yup, there's a clownfish. They have all kinds of high-tech, cool-looking gadgets to clean my teeth with, and a standing X-ray cam machine. It was like getting my picture taken for my driver's license. Smile for the camera. I go to Dr. Kennedy for regular check-ups and for Invisalign braces. Dr. Kennedy is quite an eccentric character; he always has cool, esoteric things to talk about.

It keeps me on my toes and prevents me from falling into a boredom coma. And, he's very good at his craft. He's excellent at keeping me well-informed on the health of my gums and teeth, and enthusiastic about the latest techniques and technology in dentistry. The other staff who work with him all seem to get along great, are courteous and professional with me every time. I highly recommend.
