As a member of the American Dental Association for 22 years, with extensive experience in hospital and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Suzzette Lirio Ona, D.M.D. understands the need for positive and quality healthcare. She received a B.A. in Biochemistry from Mount Holyoke College in 1989 and worked as a biochemist until 1994. Desiring to provide service through dentistry, she attended Harvard School of Dental Medicine and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1998.She spent her residency at the University of Washington Hospital, treating mentally and physically challenged adults and children in the operating room and in an emergency room setting.

At Healthy Smile we provide comprehensive dental care for children and adolescents. All members of our team are committed to creating a compassionate and stress-free dental experience for your child. Our office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age.
All of these problems can be solved with cosmetic procedures, so even if you weren't born with a beautiful smile, you can still have one. Dr. Ona has a solution for every patient. She spends an extensive amount of time inquiring about the patient's expectations, lifestyle, finances and emotional readiness for each cosmetic case.
Healthy Smile strives to improve the availability and quality of dental healthcare for patients with disabilities, severe anxiety, and children in the greater Grand Rapids area. Dr. Ona has been credentialed at all Spectrum hospital and their outpatient facilities to provide full restorative dental treatment under general anesthesia for patients. We also offer in office sedation (IV and general anesthesia) via AMC mobile for patients who qualify.

My sister recommended Dr. Ona after hearing my horrible experience at my previous dentist. I gave Healthy Smiles a call to see if I could go in for a consult and Dr. Ona informed me I needed a root canal, crown and a small filling versus my original dentist telling me I just needed two fillings. They recommended me to a root canal specialist who did a fantastic job and I got everything done and finished and now just have a cleaning to go to. Dr. Ona explained everything throughout the process and made sure I was comfortable and educated on why and what was being done.
Her and her assistants were amazing and made my view of the dentist completely different. I also need to acknowledge Tatyana (I apologize if I spelled it incorrectly) who was amazing. I had issues with insurances and she called multiple times before my appointment to make sure we were able to get it figured out and treated me so kindly. She made sure to answer any questions and calm any anxiety I had. Overall, I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with this dental office and the staff.
Seriously from check in to check out everyone is so friendly and welcoming. If you've had any issues or fears from previous bad dentists, this is the place to go! They really turn your view and experience about dentist appointments stress-free.

The Dr. is very misinformed about breastfeeding. She told my husband that "breastfeeding after one year is dangerous to the baby". And tried to scare him by saying that, "breastfeeding will cause tooth decay and can cause an abscess leading to hospitalization". She even went as far as, "you need to tell your wife to stop straight away" and also said that "your pediatrician shouldn't be telling mothers it's okay to breastfeed after they're a year old". Breastfeeding is proven to be beneficial even after the first year of life. It makes me sad to think that some mothers may listen to this misinformation and decide to cut their breastfeeding journey short.

I had a really pleasant experience here. The dental hygienist, receptionist and dentist are all very friendly and nice. The dental hygienist was very informative and let me know exactly what she was doing, when she was doing it and why she was doing it and that really helped with my anxiety. Anxiety has become a daily struggle for everyone to combat nowadays. It just is with everything to be aware of. The dentist office is the last place one might expect that anxiety level to improve, but that's what has happened after each visit. The experience at Dr. Ona's dentist office has definitely changed-it's had to adapt to keep everyone safe.
I was dubious that the human touch could be felt through the full surgery getup every employee dons. However, Dr. Ona and each member of her team continues to work hard to meet me with compassion, knowledgeable care, and seeming geniune wish to make a connection with me and every patient visiting. I greatly appreciate their efforts. Thank you!

I chipped a tooth and was able to get in right away. They provided a temporary that stayed intact and after a few weeks I was able to come back to get my crown. The crown fits perfectly and looks better than my original tooth. Very sweet dentists, very quick service, and very reasonable prices for what was done. Thank you Healthy Smile!
