I am usually seen by the dental hygienist for my cleaning but this time I had an assistant do the polish and the scraping before the hygienist. She spent time polishing my teeth and scraping which was fine. All was fine until she told the hygienist that I had a lot of scraping and that it appeared that I didn't floss. She emphasized the a lot and I thought that was a little unprofessional.

The hygienist said, "it's okay, I've seen a lot worse." Mind you, I JUST ATE about a half hour before and didn't brush my teeth because I was going for a dental cleaning! But then proceeded to give me the rest of my appointment which was thorough and nice. The staff here are very nice usually but I left feeling dirty like I did something wrong to the assistant.

Otherwise no complaints; this is a good dental office. They are very clean, professional, nice people, on time and thorough. Parking yes Clean yes Nice staff yes New technology yes On time and courteous yes Availability yes very good.

Shady business with this dental practice (as noted in other reviews).if you choose to go to them, make sure you check your insurance coverage and know exactly what is covered and what is not. And if you are unsure, be prepared for their rude response when you question charges. I went to them for several years and overall, the dental care was just fine.

But their billing practices are extremely suspect. After consulting with my insurance company, I can verify two instances were they over charged me. Once, they told me the wrong amount (more than it was) for antibiotic fluid. The other time, I was told fluoride was covered for those under the age of 12, yet when I called insurance about the charge, they said I was fully covered and shouldn't have paid anything.

So to say the least I was suspect every time I went. I have the right to question charges and each time, I got a different response or told to just leave and forget it. The last visit, I was about to leave and inquired about the amount they said I owed for said visit. The office manager had the hygienist tell me there was a charge for that day. When I asked why, the office manager without facing me, put her hand up (as in talk to the hand) and said "I don't have time for her." I said I would wait and she rudely said, "she does this every time and I should just leave".

So I left. I then called the next day to ask how to get a copy of my dental records. The office manager stated she would email me my latest x-rays, but that without a subpoena she doesn't release records. (That is not accurate btw, you have the right to a copy of your records). I formally requested the copies of my records and was sent the X-Rays.

She said for all other items to call my insurance. I called insurance company and they laughed and asked why they would have my dental records. I didn't get a response from the dentist office until I submitted another letter threatening to report them to the Dental Association. When I got copies of my records, they charged me $30 for exactly 24 pages of notes - which I happily paid and expected since they over charge for everything else.

The records state I was non-compliant with dental care.which is inaccurate. I did everything the dentist recommended between each visit. It also said that I "THREW A FIT" (in all caps) and slammed the office door while leaving my last visit, also inaccurate. The notes also state that I had been dismissed from their office. Which is news to me since I had another appt for a cavity to be refilled in May. SOOOOO, if you try them, I would check what your insurance covers or better yet, find a more ethical dental practice.

2 stars ONLY because I love receptionist Lucy! She is super sweet and accommodating and helped me with best case scenario for an insurance issue. I don't, however, feel comfortable returning after a few very bad experiences. Only describing the WORST one here. The day before my final crown placement, my temps (2 crowns next to each other) fell off.

When I went for the final crown placement the next day, I asked the hygienist if he was going to do anything to disinfect the area before placing the crown because it had been exposed for an entire day. He said no and proceeded to barely rinse it and blow some air on it lol. I did NOT feel good about that whatsoever. When the dr cemented the crowns she pushed and prodded them into my gums so hard that it did not feel right at all.

She said she had some trouble because in the day without the temps, my gums had "grown" to protect the area. Afterward she adjusted the bite multiple times because it was too high. After doing the bite test for like the 5th time, she was CLEARLY so annoyed that she wasn't done with me yet that she even threw her head to the ceiling and deep exhaled.

It was incredibly unprofessional and I was so shocked at her very apparent attitude. Not sure if their lack of professionalism directly contributed to this, but I've had to have $5k of dental work in the 3 weeks since then (and around $3k to come). I (still) have a major infection and am told BOTH CROWNS need to be redone. Of course any number of things can cause these infections, but who is to say that the hygienist's seemingly insufficient cleaning/prep of the teeth OR the trauma caused by how rough the dentist was with me weren't causes Didn't even bother calling them to update them because I don't trust them to remedy the issues.

I've been coming here for about four years now and I've always been pretty satisfied. I really appreciate the new measures they have put in place to deal with the pandemic - it was clear that they were taking their precautions seriously and they got me in and out of the building pretty quickly.

Staff is super helpful. Karina did an amazing job with whitening my teeth via Zoom. She is kind and gentle so it wasn't a painful experience. Lucy does a great job coordinate everything. I've been coming here for years and always have great care and a positive experience.

I had actually posted a favorable review for this office at one point. Unfortunately, they turned out to be quite dishonest with their services and billing practices later on. High turnover of dentists which is always a bad sign. I recommend you avoid this business for your dental care needs.

Avoid! Excel Dental are liars and cheats. I will be reporting them next to the Better Business Bureau and flagging as a fraudulent service provider with both my Company and Insurance. I was there in April 2019 for a cleaning and check-up. They said I needed dental work that I absolutely did not need (my new dentist confirmed). Demanded I pay cash for a cleaning that should have been 100% covered by my insurance - over $320 - which I paid in full.

And now Excel are trying to collect another $300+ for phantom services they did not provide. When I called to try to resolve civilly, they were arrogant and threatened to send me to collections. So be it. I should have trusted the other yelp reviews below. Excel Dental is a rip-off and sham.

Dr. Kirschner is an excellent dentist, not only is he great but he is friendly as well. He is constantly asking if you are ok or if something hurts during any cleaning. The staff are also very nice! I would definitely recommend others to come. This is my favorite dentist so far

This was my first experience with Excel Dental and I was happily surprised (I do what I can to avoid going to the dentist). The staff here are friendly and professional, and the doctor did everything she could to put me at ease and make the procedure as pleasant as possible. I'll definitely be coming back.

I haven't had any issues with the dentists at this location, but more than once, I made an appointment, confirmed the appointment, and then showed up to a nonexistent or cancelled appointment. They took no responsibility for what turned out to be a significant inconvenience each time. There are lots of dentists. You can do better.

Excel is good for cleanings, otherwise take caution. As others seem to be saying the admin staff here is lovely. This office has also given me thorough cleanings at very fair prices when I was paying out of pocket. But recently I found myself requiring a root canal. Dr. Deronian advised me that I would need the procedure followed by either a crown or a veneer, depending on how much of my real tooth she'd be able to save.

I was pretty devastated that I'd be losing one of my natural front teeth. Turns out I had another option, which no one at Excel ever mentioned to me. There are microentodontic specialists out there who do root canals using microscopic technology, and in cases like mine the natural tooth can be preserved. I ended up going to the office of Dr. Obidashian in Glendale.

The procedure was next to painless, and I still have my real tooth! I'm beyond relieved, but I deeply resent that Dr. Deronian would have let me go through with losing my tooth unnecessarily. She absolutely talked about this as my one and only option, and I almost let her proceed! At best, Dr. Deronian is uninformed about the options patients have when it comes to dental surgery.

At worst, she deceives patients so that they won't go elsewhere for treatment. The latter seems like a much more likely story. A third possibility is that Dr. Deronian assumed I couldn't afford the procedure I got, which is of course no excuse. Is that the trade-off for the accessible prices offered at Excel? The assumption that every patient will unquestioningly accept substandard care? Grim. For-profit health/dental care is truly the nightmare we all live in. Do your research, and be careful out there.

I actually had tears of gratitude today. I never thought I'd write a glowing review for a dentist's office. I've had some traumatic experiences in the past, along with the fact that I have super sensitive teeth, and so I have to take Xanax just to get a routine cleaning. I really try to take the best care of my teeth, brush carefully, never forget to floss, stay away from excess sugar, etc. Dr. Deronian recommended a deeper cleaning with scaling below the gums.

She thoroughly explained and showed me why it would be important to my current oral health situation, but kindly offered a regular cleaning as an option if that's what I wanted. It makes sense to me to do something to take preventive care of my teeth now, or decline and see what worse problems await my condition. My family has a history of oral health issues, and I'm watching my mom deal with extreme periodontal disease, so if I have the option to take better care of my oral health, then I will.

I was so scared about the potential pain of this kind of cleaning, given my sensitivity. Dr. Deronian was so kind and gentle, she really cared and took the time to make sure I was very comfortable throughout. And I can't believe it, but I actually was (and my request of many little shots of novicaine helped) The entire staff was so nice, comforting, and helpful, from the dental assistant to Susan at the front desk. Thank you all so much for helping relieve my anxiety!

Writing an updated review and taking out another star since the deadline for this clinic to reimburse me was last Friday, April 6, and I haven't received anything, not even a phone call to follow up on the status of this. Definitely not recommending it, since this action says a lot about them, and not in a positive way. Stay away if you can.

The staff seemed friendly, my husband and I were in the office a number of times through a 1 year span. Somehow it seemed like we always needed so much work! So much I started thinking it wasn't correct. It started feeling off, the staff started mysteriously leaving. It took 4 hours of my mouth wide open for the dentist to pull a crown out and my tooth. They wanted to charge me 2500 for an implant which I still haven't done, but I don't want to go back. We found a new dentist.

First and foremost, the staff here is wonderful. Such an important factor. Going to the dentist is always a little more than nerve-wracking for me financially and physically but Susan at the front desk was of the utmost help in relieving all of the panic and helping me figure out my best options. Dr. Sarah Goldstein is fantastic and you can tell really has a passion for what she does and really puts you at ease when she gets down to work. Esmerelda and Gary are amazing at what they do and each one of them put in 100%. Can't recommend enough.

STEER CLEAR. After waiting over an hour for a routine cleaning, I was recommended a deep cleaning (extra charge), irrigation (extra charge), and fluoride rinse (extra charge). I refused all of the above, and asked for a simple teeth cleaning. The office manager almost looked scared to share this news with the dentist, and muttered under her breath "she really won't be happy about that." I never saw the dentist again. They had me wait another 25 minutes, then sent in an assistant who took literally 2 minutes to quickly polish my teeth and send me on my way. What a racket.

I discovered Excel after enrolling in the Delta Dental insurance package offered through Covered California. This is one of the few providers in Atwater Village that honors Delta's meager discount on cleanings and mandatory procedures. So the story goes. The office has a few quirks, but is faultlessly clean and well-maintained. The dental stations don't have rinsing faucets, so you occasionally need to wash out your mouth in the hallway toilet.

They do feature televisions, however, with over-the-air HD broadcasts of Armenian and Korean programs for the discerning viewer. Dr. Goldstein and her staff are remarkably friendly and loquacious. I was warmly welcomed on my first visit, even as the charges for my deep cleaning and cosmetic crowns added up. Goldstein is a no-nonsense dentist, but she doesn't shame or humiliate her patients for inadequate flossing.

She just digs right in. For those concerned about price, Excel accepts Care Credit--a high interest Synchrony credit line for dental, vision and other health expenses. I signed up for it on the spot, possibly to my detriment, but received a 0% rate for the first twelve payments. What else could I do? I find dental hygiene prosaic and cringe at the costs. Yet, on the other hand, I pray nightly to enjoy firm gums and intact teeth in my catatonic years. The next time something chips, splits or decays along my jawline, you'll know where to find me.

The dentist recommended a deep cleaning for my wife after we went in for check ups, and as no detail was provided as to its nature, we declined and requested a basic cleaning. They refused (which it turns out is the correct course of action) and it started setting off red flags. We assented to a crown for my wife and went on our merry way. In the interim of the next week waiting for the permanent crown, I did some research on deep cleanings.

It turns out they are called periodontal scaling and root planing and are indicated by large gingival pocket depths following a gingival probing evaluation. Such an evaluation was never performed, so the diagnosis was presumptuous. We allowed the dentist to perform the probing next week and defend her diagnosis when the permanent crown was affixed, but we were still leery and felt misled.

We switched dentists due to this and discovered a slew of other issues. It turns out that the crown had open margins and needed to be replaced. Our new dentist recommended we have Excel replace it. We also learned that they coded a prophylaxis for me which was never performed. The new dentist performed basic prophylaxes (regular cleanings) for both of us with no mention of any indications that a deeper cleaning was needed.

Even after the perceived dishonesty of our first encounter, Excel did the right thing and replaced the crown without any hassle. They did need a couple of attempts to get a successful crown even after the first bad one, but they eventually "upgraded" the type of crown at no charge to ensure a good fit. This and the excellent work of the person who handled all of our appointment scheduling and our payment are the only silver linings of the place. Said person might be the office manager, but I'm not sure on that one.
