Pros to this office: *Didn't have a long wait time to be seen and no packed waiting room. Cons to this office: *Office isn't as "clean" as I would expect. Trash was overflowing onto the countertop in their patient restroom and toilet seat looked like it hadn't been sanitized in quite awhile. Ick. *Office claimed they all wear their masks all the time, but that's not true.

A couple of employees quickly put their masks on when they saw patients walking in. *Staff that remained after 5:00 pm had no clue about what was arranged with staff from earlier in the day. * Assistant was very rude. Brought my family member out and made it very obvious she was not happy when she spoke with the receptionist about the next appointment.

When I asked her a question she just walked off. I've worked in dentistry for over 27 years and I am surprised that our experience was as bad as it was. I truly thought that the Uehara's would have a well -educated and professional staff. Hopefully, it's just a few bad apples. However, we won't be returning.

We love the ENTIRE Dental Care of Maui team! They are all gems! Dr John has been seeing my son since he was 10-months old (with a full set of teeth!) and we have always received the most impeccable care! Dr John was even able to notice before our pediatrician that my son had tongue tie, which was the source of a lot of issue we were experiencing with his development. He is a genius about everything teeth related! I highly recommend!

Prompt and professional service with a very short wait. My teeth cleaning was thorough and took a while, which is good. Staff is very Aloha, and feels like a family business. This is my 4th time using them and will continue to do so.

Called ahead of time to ask if they took my insurance before booking appointment. (Not a lot of dentists take it). Said yes they do. After I was done they said that'll be x amount. I said I have insurance. They said oh we're not in network. I asked why they didn't tell me that up front when I called or at any point before the appointment. "That's our doctors policy". Shady shady shady business practice.

At no point in the interaction did they state I will be paying this out of pocket. It's no different than theft. The ol bait and switch. If they're willing to lie about that I wouldn't trust them with my teeth or anyone's.

I waited 45 mins to see a dentist. All I needed was an estimate for a crown. I watched at least 4 people who came in after me get called first. I inquired twice as to what was happening. Should I reschedule? Second time I was told I would be called in less than 5 mins. Didn't happen. I walked out. Absolutely infuriating.

I got to where I didn't trust Dr. Bonnie. Every time I went in she would come up with a new "issue" that I have to try and sell me on something. One time it was a type of teeth straightening (my teeth are straight!), another it was the I grind my teeth (she never said anything before or after that visit about teeth grinding after I told her I wasn't interested in a mouth guard and had never been told I grind my teeth).

The last time I went was the final straw. The hygienist noted that my teeth looked good. Then dr Bonnie came in and said my xrays showed 4 cavities - conveniently on each different side of my mouth and needing 3 surfaces filled. I got a second opinion and guess what - no cavities! Do not trust them. Find another dentist! Also, if you try to switch dentists, they literally give you a print out of your last X-ray and that's it.

Came in for a broken crown. They were able to get me in & replace the crown that day, so that's where they get their star. But, the crown was too dark, and doesn't match the rest of my teeth, and they say I'm stuck with it. So I was upset they wouldn't fix there color match, but then, I got a 2nd bill in the mail after I paid over $1000 (not including the insurance portion covered).

They tried adding an extra exam, dated for the following day, which I was only there one day. There was another questionable charge on invoice as well. After I called and brought it to their attention, and mentioned calling my insurance, they took care of it thankfully. Like the average Joe, I would have never knew, if it wasn't for my dental hygienist friend looking over the bill for me.

I had my first visit. X-rays and cleaning in one visit (but no physical exam). I was impressed of their modern technology, and they are a very busy office with effective time management skills. Their in-house dental plan is competitive to most dental insurance. Assistants were very professional, friendly, prompt and on time. Then, Dr. Bonnie and the front office manager were so curious to know about my employer's business, they asked many questions and kept probing, since they saw on my file that I am a dental assistant at another office.

They offer both amalgam and composite which is rare and I appreciate the options. HOWEVER, the reason why I am rating this experience 4 stars and not 5 is because Dr. Bonnie did not look into my mouth to do a physical exam after the x-ray. She quoted 3 tooth fillings after the x-ray. As a dental assistant, I have seen my employer dentists make that mistake often enough.

They would quote fillings/crown when they see the patient's x-rays. Then when they actually open the patients mouth to do an exam, they change the fillings/crown quote maybe 1/4 of the time.

My family have been coming to see both Dr. John and Dr. Bonnie since 1994 (actually, my husband even longer than that). We've always had good experience with them, with the dentists and all the staff. I understand that each person have different experiences, but when I saw all the negatives comments here, I thought I should share our experience because ours is a positive one. I had been recommending Dental Care of Maui to friends who in turn thanked me because they were satisfied.
