Ok, disclaimer up front- I have never seen Dr Blicher (and my review will explain why I wont be seeing him) but I am a physician, board certified in three specialties, and with nearly 50 years experience. I have also had considerable dental work of all types, and have been treated by some of the best and worst dentists you can imagine.so I think I can assert I am a knowledgable patient and consumer.

I understand COMPLETELY why many dentist, and as expected, most excellent general dentists, don't participate in insurance plans. However, if you dont participate, you MUST be willing to convey to ANY new patient a range of charges for a straightforward repair, filling crown quoted with precision. When you insist that they come in for an appointment before you convey and idea of the cost range of your practice is simply unnecessary and unfair, and arguably exploitative, when there will be charges and lost time associate with this "introduction".

Why should a patient pay for a practices marketing costs, esp when this practice clearly charges top dollar? And of course there is the entire issue of "upselling" rampant in today's dental world once they have you "in the chair." While No patient should resent paying top dollar for top services, and certainly one can be an excellent, competent and co passionate provider despite these business practices, but why encourage/underwrite them? there are plenty of equally competent dentists within a few miles of this practice you can select who are nowhere near totally booked -just use yelp or google or consumers checkbook.

Do Your homework make some calls, don't be intimidated for front desk marketing like this! Its hard to change dentists -they know this- if your are not stuck with this practice, but let yourself become "sticky" in the first place. This is my first review on yelp, I only did it because i feel so strongly about this issue of dentists exploiting patients.

Its so hard to wade through the opacity of dental practices and so unnecessary. Good dentists SHOULD charge well for their services, but they need to be candid and open about that.

For someone who gets stressed about going to doctors, I have always felt at ease here. The staff and doctor are friendly and the office is inviting. I had two bad experiences with other dentists in the area trying to convince me to do unnecessary dental work for extraordinary amounts of money, and was happy to find a dentist with honesty and integrity here. Although I live and work a good amount away from his office now, I still travel in for my cleanings because I know that kind of trust is not easy to come by!

Dr. Blicher's office is very professional. I grew up in a dental family - dad is a retired dentist and mother worked as a hygienist in my dad's office. This office reminds me of my dad's office in that the hygienist is motherly and provides tough love. If your mouth is a mess, she will tell you in a constructive manner and tell you what you need to do to fix it (just like my mom used to do with me and her other patients).

My dad gave a second opinion on a recommended scaling and planing and he agreed with Dr. Blicher's assessment and even complimented his thoroughness, so Dr. Blicher does not recommend any work that isn't necessary. There is a reason it takes a month to get an appointment- Dr. Blicher is an excellent dentist and people know it!

I went to Dr. Blicher after not having been to the dentist for maybe 5-10 years (yikes). Mouth was a mess but I got no judgment, only advice and some referrals to gum and surgical specialists. The referrals were solid, another reason why I am so appreciative of Dr. Blicher - he seems to work within a good dental network of doctors in downtown DC. Don't usually have too much trouble getting an appointment.

His staff is really friendly, and I've had no paperwork or insurance problems. It's been two and a half years under his care and I've made a lot of progress, and have nothing but good things about to say about his practice.

Let me start by saying I haven't been to the dentist in over a decade. and finally got the courage to see Dr. Blicher based on the positive reviews. His office did not disappoint. The staff at the front desk are polite and friendly. His hygienist did a fabulous job and did not make me feel like a horrible person for putting this visit off for so long.

My teeth look amazing! I saw Dr. Blicher only briefly b/c there were no major problems with my teeth. he was very pleasant and did not give me any hard sells (as I hear some dentists do). This is a dentist I will happily return to in six months!

It is important in life to have a dentist you don't dread seeing. I've been seeing Dr. Blicher for about two and a half years, and I'm delighted to have found this office. The staff and hygienists are friendly and personable. Cleanings are efficient and reasonably pain-free, using an ultrasonic scaler as well as the big old hooks. I've never had to wait more than five minutes for my appointment.

I haven't had a huge amount of interaction with Dr. Blicher himself-- since my routine checkups are usually pretty good, he will pop in to take a look at my teeth and x-rays, say good morning, and not linger. Although I understand he specializes in cosmetic dentistry, I've never gotten any hard sell or pressure about cosmetic procedures-- even though I could use some; the only time it's ever come up is when I've mentioned it. I always schedule my next visit on my way out, and the office staff calls me a few days in advance with a reminder.

OK the name of his practice is actually "Gentle Dental Care, " which I thought was just some marketing stuff. But, it turns out, they really are more gentle than others! They hit my teeth with some crazy sonic water spray thing before the scraping and the scraping went oh-so-much-better! I also got good, non-pressury advice about some orthodontic treatment I'll need and friendly advice about wearing braces as an adult. (Yes, I'm getting braces.just call me Ugly Betty!) Every single person there is friendly and professional, and the appointments run on time - you aren't abandoned in the waiting room or in the chair for 20 minutes at a time. I'm so thrilled with this dentist and have been referring everyone. The only downside is that it will now probably take me two months to get an appointment!

My mom has worked for my dentist for most of my life, so I've been spoiled by great dental care over the years. When I moved to DC, my first dental experience was horrendous (so horrendous, in fact, I can't even think about writing a review without steaming). Imagine then, how relieved I was when I found Dr. Blicher (pronounced "blee-ker").

I decided to try Dr. Blicher after reading about his practice in the Washingtonian's annual survey of DC's best dentists. The Washingtonian got it spot on. Dr. Blicher is simply a nice guy. I don't have any qualms about going to the dentist, but there is something in this guy's demeanor that just puts you at ease. His dental hygienist does a very gentle but thorough cleaning (not the kind where you leave with inflamed gums and feel like you mouth has been torn open in a million different spots). Don't be turned off by the office's location in the basement or the somewhat outdated decor.

The medical equipment (i.e., the stuff that really counts) is modern and the services exceptional. It takes about a month to get in with Dr. Blicher, so think about making your appointment in advance. Price for cleaning, exam, and a full set of x-rays was $383, but insurance took a bite out of that. Its $180 less if you have recent x-rays. Dr. Blicher does some cosmetic dentistry as well, but this is not the kind of place where you will get the hard sell for services you don't want or need. A block or so from the Farragut North Metro on K St., access couldn't be easier. Happy brushing!
