Dr. James Hyer DMD has considered himself an Alaskan since 1989, upon his first arrival here while serving in the army as a dentist. He was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon and went to undergraduate at the University of Oregon. Dr. Hyer graduated dental school at Oregon Health Sciences in Portland, Oregon in 1985. He spent many years mentoring athletes while coaching high school football in Anchorage, and is the proud father of his daughter, Piper, who is currently attending engineering school at California Polytechnic State University.

Anchorage Dental Group's owner has refused to refund a $1000 deposit that I paid on September 24, 2020 for a dental implant to be performed by James Hyer DDS. Shortly thereafter Dr. Hyer retired. In the year and a half since then they have not hired a practitioner who is able to perform the surgery. Despite repeated attempts to receive a refund I am told various reasons why they just can't get around to it.
For example the office manager is not authorized, or the owner has to approve it, or they have to check the records, etc. This is been going on for months. In my opinion it is unethical and unprofessional to take a patients money for a particular service, then fail to provide the service, and then fail to address the return of the deposit.

I have always been deathly afraid of the whole dental process, a friend recommended I give the Anchorage Dental Group a try. From the moment I walked in the office, I was treated with kindness and respect, my fear was recognized and that concern continued thru my cleaning and dental examination. I have since returned to the office, have had several procedures from, crowns, fillings, posts, extractions you name it I have probably had the procedure, each one painless! Very comfortable greeting. They were down to earth and was able to make our plan easily and without hassles. They worked with my insurance and made sure I was within my spending limits before I did anything so I wasn't stressed during the visit. It was nice. I've been to many dentists in anchorage and I got the best feeling from them.

I went to anchorage dental group because of a recommendation from a friend who just had lip injections. Her experience was so great it made me consider getting mine done for my upcoming wedding in June to feel my best on the big day. Immediately upon arrival I was greeted with friendly staff and a very clean and cute office. As it was my first time. having my lips done, I was nervous but the staff went above and beyond to make me feel calm and relaxed.
They thoroughly explained each step of the way. The doctor took his time to ensure the look much more full and very natural that I was after was achieved properly. The result was fantastic, my lips Look much more full and very natural. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to get juvederm lip injections.

The staff was very professional and made me very comfortable. They were able to give me a copy of my X-rays via email. I had xrays and a teeth cleaning. Everything was pretty straight forward but I think nowadays it's hard to find a good dentistry. I would have them as my regular dentist, though I moved. In any case, high recommend.

Dr. Mark Laurin and his entire staff is absolutely amazing! I had to get a root canal done and have herd nothing but horror stories about them. I have to say it was nothing, I felt no pain at all. Even the healing part was a breeze. Dr. Laurin and his staff are so caring and make you feel as comfortable as you possibly can. I recommend him to anyone you will never be disappointed. They are all amazing at what they do.

We started looking for a different family dental practice in Anchorage and after trying out a few other dentists over the years we settled down with Anchorage Dental Group. Super easy to get to just off Seward Hwy and E Diamond Blvd with ample parking. Our three younger children enjoy Dr. Hyer and the staff is always friendly. They have made sure our insurance is taken and our cleanings, X-rays and exams are all done at the same time, which saves us from having to make 5 separate visits.
Other dental practices we went too seemed to be too busy or could never ‘fit’ us all into their schedule so it became inconvenient. We have been telling our friends about Anchorage Dental Group and will continue going to this dentist for the foreseeable future
