Alderwood Dental was founded in 1981 by Dr. John W. Shumaker after graduating from the University of Washington. John grew up in Western Washington and made it his continued mission to give back to his community by offering the highest quality dental services. Our loyal, friendly, and experienced team has been working for the practice for over 2 decades.
At Alderwood Dental, we understand the importance of high quality dental services. We work hard to provide our patients with complete family, cosmetic, and general dentistry. With same day crowns, bridges, veneers, and cutting edge technology, our friendly office has everything you need! It is suggested that patients should be seen for a dental cleaning and routine exam every 6 months or as recommended by their dentist. During the cleaning, plaque and calculus will be removed from your teeth leaving behind a bright and polished smile.

I have been going to Dr Shumaker for about 35 years and it's always been a great experience. The support staff has been the same the whole time except their long time hygienist retired a few years ago. For some reason I seemed to have aged but none of them have. Dr Shumaker is always on the cutting edge of dentistry.

I just had my first visit to Alderwood Dental since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March of 2020. It was great getting back into the office to see Dr. Shumaker and staff. This office is very friendly and comfortable. A great place for dental care. They adhered to all the requirements for handling patients during the pandemic. I had no health concerns while in the office.
This was my first dental office where I experienced getting a crown in a single one hour visit. My prior experience was needing to schedule two visits with prep for the crown in the first visit and installation of the crown a couple of weeks later. That has been a wonderful experience. I have been a patient of Dr. Shumaker's for 15 years or longer.

Best dentist ever. Dr. Shumaker and the entire staff are excellent. I love that he uses state of the art equipment that significantly cuts down on office visits. When I needed a crown it only took one visit as he takes computerized images in the office and makes the crown during the visit. No need for temporary crowns and follow up appointments. Highly recommend.

Dr Shumaker has been our family dentist for over 25 yrs. I love his practical approach and his thorough exams. I will never go anywhere else! The entire staff is always friendly and welcoming. Amy is an amazing hygienist. Very gentle and meticulous with a calm demeanor- perfect for a relaxing teeth cleaning experience. I highly recommend Alderwood Dental to everyone!

Dr. Shumaker and his staff at Alderwood Dental are my favorite! I originally went to him because he does invisalign and takes care credit. I liked them so much that I've been a client for 3-4 years now. His fees are very reasonable (I don't have insurance) and he is a great guy. If you are looking for a dentist in the alderwood, lynnwood, edmonds, or shoreline area, I recommend calling Alderwood Dental.
