About Smiles In Austin

I visited About Smiles after reading such great reviews. The service I received was so warming. I was first greeted by Tiggy (I hope I got her name right) who was warm and kind. Shandra was amazing! Her and Dr. Hermann helped ease my pain, calm my nerves and even sang to me! The music was a great distraction as I was getting an extraction and graft. Dr. Hermann explained everything thoroughly, was patient and made me feel so comfortable.

I've never had this experience at a dental office before. The hygienist, forgot her name, but was thorough as well. When I left to pick up meds, Connie was so helpful and the error was on my pharmacy. Thank you all. I will definitely be back and I just can't thank you enough. I highly recommend About Smiles for all your Dental needs!

I love the environment in this office, everyone is always so nice and happy to be there! I had cosmetic work done for discoloration on my teeth and am beyond happy with the results! I got zoom whitening done along with icon treatment leaving my teeth looking white and healthy! This is all around such a great place!

This is the best experience I've had with a dentist since I moved to Austin. The office staff were very friendly and helpful and it was easy to make an appointment. I went in because I had a chip in my front tooth and they were able to fix my chip the same day. The dental hygienist, Chloe, did a very good job of explaining everything she was doing as she was doing it and provided clear steps for future treatments. Dr Hoover did an amazing job fixing the chip in my tooth!

The color matches perfectly and you can't tell that's it's filled in at all, I was astonished by how great they look afterwards. The office environment was clean and very comforting. I've been weary of going to the dentist in the past because I don't trust a lot people in my mouth but Both the doctor and the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly that I had no problem with trusting them to fix my teeth. I am going back in a few weeks for a deep cleaning. Thanks for making it a great experience!

I went to see Dr. Hoover to get some cavities filled and she was so great at making me feel comfortable. I get really bad anxiety when going to the dentist but she was great about always talking to me and telling me what she's doing and why. We also took my daughter to Dr. Hoover for a second opinion after another dental office had given us an outrageous treatment plan for our 6 year old. Dr. Hoover explained what we needed and didn't need and I felt that her recommendations for both myself and our daughter were reasonable and that she is not one to push unnecessary work on patients just to make a buck. All in all, Dr. Hoover is caring, easy to talk to, and trustworthy. I highly recommend!

Dr. Hoover and her staff are like a second family. From the receptionist - to the dental assistant - to the doctor, they truly listen to their patient's desires and communicate well. My 8 year old daughter chipped her front tooth this weekend and About Smiles MADE time to see us today (even though their schedule was full). The best part is that no one will ever know a chunk of my daughter's front tooth is actually a filling! That's how great her work is! Dr. Hoover is the only dentist I'll ever let touch my/my kids teeth.

This is the first time I have written a Google review for anyone but it is deserving. I had nothing but great experiences while going to see Dr. Lauren. Her team was great and she did a great job explaining everything that she was doing and listening to what I had to say. She kept me calm during all of my appointment and answered all of my questions.

After seeing many different dentists I can say that Dr. Lauren and her team are the best I have seen and I will continue to go there and would highly recommend them to anyone. Will be moving my entire family over to About Smiles.

I did my top 8 teeth with veneers and there are not enough stars to give all the ladies that work here. Every single person has been absolutely amazing. I have the SMIL E OF MY DREAMS thanks to Dr. Lauren and her team. Alexis is literally is the sweetest most helpful angel there is. This office and their office down town went above and beyond for me every time. I went to a lot of consultations, nothing compares to the care and compassion you will get from the team at about smiles. I will be recommending them to everyone!

Have Had really great experiences from the time I was checked in by the kind and charismatic Bianca to the hygienist Chloe who took good care of me and even did a deep clean same day to Dr Lane who did my initial exam and Dr Herman who did a couple of fillings on me. The owner Dr Hoover is very kind and made sure to say hello and make me feel welcome. I highly recommend this office.

I am Very grateful for this practice since my first visit a year ago, & today I went in for my 6 month cleaning I had another pleasant experience. I've had my share of bad experiences at Dental offices left me a bit distraught. I strongly encourage if you are looking for dental provider this is the one! Never been to a dentist where it was literally a pain-feee experience. sFOR 2 crowns! Dr. Hoover is a magician. My only criticism, is that the other dentist in her office is a very attractive male, and all of a sudden my wife has been getting mysterious toothaches in a weekly basis.

I have been going to Dr. Hoover since she took over when Dr. Smith retired. She is absolutely the best dentist/person I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have had some extremely difficult situations and she has guided me thru them and is still helping me cope with a serious situation. She listens to you and I feel truly cares about her patients. Adequate dentistry work, but customer service is declining, as of late. My husband and I both go to About Smiles (for now, and not much longer). The dentists and hygienists themselves are great and very friendly. They do take their time, which is good and bad given most people want to get in and out of the dentist as quickly as possible. They sort of bounce from room to room working on different patients at a time which feels like the process is slowed but I'm okay with that most of the time.

We even moved quite a good distance away, and still continue to go to About Smiles, but at this time I think that will change. They tend to drop the ball where communication and billing is concerned. We've been waiting for an issue with a bill to be resolved for over 6 months, and until I followed up recently they were just continuing to bill us without following up on the issue at hand, which had to do with insurance covering certain procedures (we all know how this goes, and it happens to no fault of the dentist's office).

Leading me to my main issue; the female who handled my calls yesterday and today. She specifically said she was the newest person at the facility and she couldn't give me straight answers on some of the questions I had, and had said someone above her was going to give me a call to discuss, but I never received a call. So naturally, I followed up today.

I misread a portion of her email, and misunderstood the cost of something, and instead of patiently explaining that I missed that piece of her email, she talked over me and repeated herself in a nasty tone 4 times, to the point where when she finally stopped speaking, my response was "can you cut the attitude, I'm reaching out for information when no one returned my call".

Her name is Gabby Mirelez, FYI. There was another girl at the front desk who was absolutely awesome, I'm not sure if she's not there anymore, or I've just been unfortunate enough to get Gabrielle on the phone the last few times, but I can say once we figure all of this out, and I go for the final appointment I have scheduled, we'll be switching dentists due to poor customer service.

Dr. Gretchen Hoover is possibly the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate, and the most skilled at her craft Dentist I have ever come into contact with! I have been in the dental business for over 30 years and never have I met a dentist that cared so much about my smile and making me happy. She took my old worn out crowns and veneers that I have collected throughout the years, and turned my smile into a work of art. Why?

Because she truly cares and has a huge heart of gold! I love my new teeth and smile so much more now. She goes out of her way to make your visits comfortable and painless. I love her and her staff, especially Kris that spent way too much of his time to make the perfect temporary! I would recommend Dr. Hoover to anyone, especially if you are the least bit apprehensive about getting any dentistry done. She is awesome, love her!

I had such a fantastic experience with the About Smiles team. They were professional, warm and welcoming and didn't try to oversell me on services I did not need. It should be mentioned that I hadn't been to a dentist in almost over a decade. Seriously, since I was a teenager! I was a bit anxious and the staff made sure they took every precaution possible to make me comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Lane was awesome!

He talked me through everything and took time to answer all of my questions. The hygienist Dawn and Kathy the assistant, were both so lovely and attentive. The receptionists at the front desks were also very welcoming. Collectively, from start to end they made the ENTIRE experience relaxing and pain free! They were straight forward with billing and walked me through everything insurance would cover, etc. Transparent and professional, and inviting to boot. What more can you ask for?

I am so grateful to have found About Smiles! Dr. Lane is an incredible dentist. He is knowledgeable, and thorough and the bed side manner I received is better than I could have hoped for somebody who does not have ample dental coverage and tends to avoid dental care. Their Loyalty Program was perfect for me and my circumstances. My husband has an upcoming appointment, my son will have an upcoming appointment.

I feel better, I am better having been to About Smiles. I whole heartedly recommend Dr. Lane and About Smiles to any person who needs dental care and has been putting it off for whatever reason. Update 2.5 years later: -I have had zero need for fillings. My teeth have been perfectly fine these past 2.5 years. Clearly I never needed the 3 additional fillings and I'm confident I didn't need the other 2 fillings or crown either. But it's too late for those. -Speaking of the crown I never needed that About Smiles installed in my mouth, since it was porcelain instead of a stronger material, it now has cracked, causing pain, and now I need a new, better crown.

This is of course extremely expensive. Going to About Smiles is a gift that keeps on giving. I *strongly* recommend you never go here. Very tempted to report these people to the Dental Board or whatever it is. Horrible.

Dr. Gretchen Hoover is amazing. She is really sweet, funny, and goes above and beyond for customer care. Her magic touch is the soothing care she gives when giving you a shot (in the mouth!). She jiggles your cheek and talks you through it, making the anxiety so much less. Also, the receptionist, Starr, is great. Every single time I have called this office, it has been met with ease and kindness. I greatly appreciate the customer care they put into their work. Going to the dentist still sucks, but at least I know I'm going to be treated like a human :)

I went to About Smiles after a terrible experience with Brident. The staff was amazing! Brident was taking forever to send over my xrays from a previous visit so they did a few free ones to get my appointment started. They made their treatment not so overwhelming and weren't trying to collect payment for everything up front like Brident. I'm excited to start the plan they have given me and I'm not a fan of the dentist.

I've been going to another Austin area dentist for 18+ years and thought I was getting top care. Having re-located from Lakeway to South Austin I sought care from About Smiles. Not only have they taken great care of me but also provided modern and progressive care for a middle aged person with aging dental issues. Great organization across the board in all capacities including; insurance guidance, cleaning, restoration and a plan for overall best care. I highly recommend About Smiles!

I'm new to Austin and hadn't found a dentist yet when About smiles was recommended to me. I only needed to have my teeth cleaned so I made an appointment. Thinking that if it didn't work out I can always find another dentist. Well things did work out and I've found a new dental home and won't be going anywhere else. What a wonderful friendly staff. Everyone from the receptionist to the dentist was friendly, knowledgeable and highly professional. I'll be going back.

I have been through MANY dentist offices after losing my childhood dentist to moving. THIS office is filled with dedicated staff who are extremely friendly and empathetic. Authentic dentist office for sure and I have finally found my dentist office that I look forward to coming to again and again. I highly recommend About Smiles! : My hygienist Kay was so REAL and told me the upfront truth without sugar coating -- as I have experienced at other offices. I am thankful for what Kay has taught me on things I can do at home to have the healthiest mouth possible!

Doctor Hoover is the best of the best. She is truly invested in my dental health. Finding her was a blessing. The staff is sweet "as Apple pie!" I've had dental issues from toddler age and over time started to neglect my personal oral care. When I started with Dr. Hoover it's as though my the stress of my neglect was put at complete ease. I would recommend Dr. Hoover to EVERYONE I know!

I had my first visit at this office yesterday and was so pleased with the service by the entire staff. Dr. Hoover was so thorough and explained all the work I would need in a very caring compassionate manner. I look forward to having them as my new primary dentist and probably will not put off going to the dentist anymore! Thank you to the entire staff for making this a more pleasant experience

The dentist is never thought of as a great place to go. However, it is a necessary evil in life that is part of adulting. I'm inspired to write this review because this dentist's office was actually a pleasant experience, and I was blown away by the quality of my experience. I had to go in because I had a tooth infection, and I ended up getting that tooth pulled plus a wisdom tooth on the same day.

They got me in right away, and I noticed that the office was lovely and that you can drink coffee or tea while you wait. (If you're worried about your breath, they have mouthwash in the bathroom!);-) In the dentist's chair, I prepared myself for the torturous nightmare to begin. It never did. Surprisingly, they offered me sunglasses and a blanket.

I felt like I was in a sci-fi movie with all the high-tech equipment. Dr. Nguyen and his assistant made me feel at ease, and he even joked that he was going to whisper my teeth out of my mouth! They did manage to extract the molar and a wisdom tooth with very minimal pain. I did not even need to take painkillers afterwards, which was shocking! Crystal, the hygienist, got my teeth sparkling clean. I could tell she was passionate about what she does.

TLDR; They padded the bill as much as possible. I like the atmosphere and location. Everyone is friendly including Dr Hoover, two hygienists and all staff I met. They have a lot going for them-- BUT I've also has some bad experiences. I had the same dentist and hygienist for 3 years. They never mentioned my fillings (I have none) or of needed drilling.

Then again, that was at a grant-funded community clinic. Maybe they had lower standards, or just didn't have a profit motive? For the record, it was a great clinic. I'm grateful I had access to it. I question About Smiles add-on services, and their oral evaluation of my tooth condition. 1st appointment they informed me of two filling that I was not aware I had-- suspicious to say the least!

Of course they wanted to drill two more, the same day. Minor fillings at $200 a pop add up fast. They suggested to apply for a line of credit. Still, for $99 I got a fair deal on the cleaning, comprehensive evaluation, x-rays, etc. I went for a 2nd appointment 6 mo later for another cleaning. Good hygienist, very thorough and knowledgeable. Again I told them no on all add-ons-- just the cleaning and paid $92.

I just received a bill for that cleaning only visit from 3 mos ago. There was one $52 added-on for "periodic oral evaluation" unpaid from the 2nd appointment. But, I just had a comprehensive evaluation 6 mo before. This kind of calendar-bill code padding nonsense may be standard practice. That doesn't make it right!

Today, I had my first visit with About Smiles. I'm new to Austin but I think I've already found my dentist! I came in today for a cleaning, to get some cavities filled. Dr. Mills and the whole staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. They informed me of what they were doing at every step and why they were doing it.

I strongly believe that in the absence of information people often fear the worst. That's especially true for me when I visit the dentist. There are so many questions that I've had for years that they explained today without my asking.

I just had a root canal on a "hot" molar way in the back. Dr. Kahlden took care of it in two appointments. It wasn't pleasant, but what root canal is? He did a great job. Seemed to be very thorough. PS. brush and floss, people.

Despite having to have a re-do on a route canal by a different dentist, my experience was great. They got me in the very next day after calling in with a toothache. The staff was the best I've experienced in a long time & Dr. Hughes took great care of me. I would definitely recommend About Smiles to any of my friends & family.
